Baseball: Hunter Virant hands Oxnard its first defeat
There were reports last summer that junior-to-be Hunter Virant of Camarillo was a pitcher on the rise. Then UCLA Coach John Savage offered him a scholarship, and he committed.
Now Virant is one of the hottest pitchers in the Southland. He improved to 3-0 on Tuesday, pitching Camarillo past previously unbeaten Oxnard, 3-2, in a Pacific View League game.
Oxnard dropped to 8-1 and 3-1. Camarillo took over first place at 7-4 and 4-0.

Although Virant was impressive, I was stunned at the lack of offense from both teams. Are the new bats really making that much of a difference? Maybe they'll move the fences in to about 240 feet so we'll see some home runs. I'll take our OCHS squad any day!!
