Baseball: Hart has a super sophomore

After three games, let’s declare what Hart fans have known for a while: The Indians have a super sophomore player in shortstop Luke Persico.

He had a single, double and home run on Tuesday in Hart’s 5-3 victory over Thousand Oaks, advancing the Indians (3-0) into the Easton tournament semifinals. He is 8 for 11 on the season heading into the Indians’ semifinal game against Chatsworth, which defeated Oaks Christian, 6-4. Steven Karkenny hit a three-run home run for Chatsworth (3-0). The game will be at Hart on Thursday.

Encino Crespi improved to 3-0 with a 10-1 victory over Ventura. Scott Heineman had a home run and double. Madison Dang allowed four hits in six innings. Agoura knocked off Alemany, 10-8, despite four hits from Corey Sims.

Huntington Beach Edison (3-0) defeated Sonora, 3-2. Christian Lopes hit a home run and Henry Owens came in to pick up the save. Ventura Buena defeated Reseda Cleveland, 2-1.

Granada Hills Kennedy defeated Palmdale, 10-8. Dan Alcantar had a double, triple and four RBIs. Chris Nicholson had three hits, including a two-run home run, and finished with four RBIs as Woodland Hills El Camino Real defeated Loyola, 11-2.

North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake defeated West Ranch, 8-3. Freshman Jack Flaherty hit a home run, went two-for-two and pitched 4 2/3 innings. Jason Garfinkel added three hits.

Santa Ana Mater Dei (3-0) defeated Capistrano Valley, 8-5. Ty Moore had a two-run home run and Ryan Teel went two for two with two RBIs.

Reece Schmidt threw five shutout innings and also had three hits in Simi Valley’s 7-0 win over Santa Monica. St. John Bosco (3-0) defeated El Segundo, 9-2. Taylor Sparks had three hits and three RBIs. L.A. Cathedral defeated Oak Park, 13-5. Chris Flores had three hits.
