Baseball: David Lira outduels Jose Cardona in opener

In a matchup of All-City pitchers, San Fernando's David Lira outdueled the reigning City Section player of the year, Jose Cardona of Woodland Hills El Camino Real, to help his team defeat the Conquistadores, 3-1, on Tuesday in a season baseball opener.

Lira threw six innings, allowing three hits while striking out three and walking six. Cardona went six innings and allowed seven hits with four strikeouts and three walks. El Camino Real left nine runners on base.

El Camino Real is the defending City Section Division I champion.
