Baseball: Arleta gets 2-1 win over Kennedy

One of the disappointing teams early this season has been Arleta, expected to be a City Section title threat. The Mustangs lost five of their first nine games.

On Thursday, Arleta finally put it together to defeat Granada Hills Kennedy, 2-1. Miguel Perez (3-0) threw a complete game, striking out six and walking one.

‘We finally played good baseball,’ Coach Edgar Maldonado said.

Wilmington Banning improved to 5-2 with a 3-2 win over South Torrance. Alexis Martinez came in with the bases loaded and none out in the seventh and struck out the side to earn the save.

Van Nuys Montclair Prep defeated Birmingham, 9-0, at UCLA. Sophomore Nick Suniga struck out nine and allowed three hits in six innings. Sean Adler struck out the side in the seventh. Blake Steele had two hits for the Mounties (6-1).

San Fernando defeated Eagle Rock, 8-0. Burbank was beaten by (Ariz.) Nogales, 5-4, in Tucson. Ricky Perez had two hits for Burbank.

A.J. Silberman threw a complete game, striking out eight and allowing three hits, as Woodland Hills El Camino Real defeated Sylmar, 8-0. Gardena Serra defeated Los Angeles Washington, 12-2. Khalil Denson had three hits.
