Baseball: Chatsworth rallies to win Easton tourney title

City Section power Chatsworth overcame a 5-0 deficit by scoring three runs in the fifth inning and five in the sixth to defeat Valencia, 8-5, in the championship game of the Easton tournament on Saturday night at Stengel Field.

Steven Karkenny came in and threw two shutout innings of relief to pick up the victory, including a strikeout of Valencia’s Trey Williams. Chatsworth is 5-0 and plays La Puente Bishop Amat on Monday night in a nonleague game at USC. Tim Han, Aaron Brown and Jared Holley had two hits apiece, and Ryan Escobar delivered a three-run triple.

In the Loara tournament championship game, Henry Owens struck out 16 as Huntington Beach Edison defeated Vista Murrieta, 3-2.

Oxnard won the Southern California Invitational championship with a 3-1 victory over Simi Valley Royal.

Cypress defeated El Toro, 3-0, behind Dylan Cole, who threw a two-hitter.

Garrett Gooding struck out 10 as Newhall Hart defeated West Hills Chaminade, 4-2. Moorpark handed Encino Crespi its first defeat, 1-0, in eight innings. Matt Corcoran threw five shutout innings for the Musketeers.

Juan Carrillo had three hits to help Granada Hills Kennedy defeat North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake, 6-4. JC Cloney struck out eight and threw a three-hitter in West Ranch’s 1-0 win over Agoura. Ryan Paramo hit a two-run home run and pitched Alemany past Rio Mesa, 5-3.

Golden Valley defeated Hueneme, 13-0. Jonah Sabedra was four for four and Tanner Swire went three for three. Steven Reveles hit a home run in Dos Pueblos’ 4-3 win over Simi Valley. Harley Faye had three RBIs to help Reseda Cleveland defeat Camarillo, 8-7.

North Hollywood Campbell Hall rallied for an 11-9 win over Woodland Hills Taft. Eddie Munoz had the game-winning two-run double. Mike Hymes hit his fourth home run for Taft. Woodland Hills El Camino Real defeated St. Bonaventure, 10-8. Justin Russell had three hits. Eastside defeated Burbank, 3-1. Josh Ehrlich had three hits in Calabasas’ 5-1 win over Palmdale. Sophomore Jack Morello allowed one hit in five innings as Sherman Oaks Notre Dame (4-1) defeated Sylmar, 6-0.

Birmingham (6-2) defeated Westchester, 12-7. Kevin Torres hit a home run and double. Luke Jupp had two hits and three RBIs.

L.A. Cathedral defeated Bishop Montgomery, 13-2. Oscar Leong and Sergio Luna combined on a no-hitter with 12 strikeouts.
