Maya Hood had 11 points and Kaylah Miller scored three three-pointers to give La Jolla Country Day (20-3) a 28-25 halftime lead over Mater Dei (21-1) at the Nike Extravaganza at Santa Ana Mater Dei.

Mater Dei struggled from the field the first half, shooting 31.3% to the Torrey’s 50%. Kaleena Mosqueda Lewis, the top-ranked recruit in the 2011 class, shot two for 12.

The Monarchs are still in the game because they forced 12 turnovers while only committing four. If they start making their shots, they should be able to take control.
