Boys' basketball: Taft pulls out overtime victory

Spencer Dinwiddie scored 12 consecutive points at the end of regulation and overtime to lift Woodland Hills Taft (21-2) to a 49-42 overtime victory over Concord De La Salle in the Nike Extravaganza. Dinwiddie finished with 16 points, the same as teammate C.J. Blackwell.

Dinwiddie's three-point play with 1:06 left in regulation tied the game at 32-32.

De La Salle's defense and slow pace resulted in a low-scoring game. Taft led, 16-15, at halftime and 22-21 through three quarters. Travis Pacos had 17 points for De La Salle.

Nice To See A Good Game

Wow, my Taft boys sure stank up the activity center in this game. Listless and without any plan, they just ran down the court and chucked the ball at the basket the whole game. Nobody posted up, didn't use their size advantage, didn't press DLS after the first three minutes of the game. Every quarter I was expecting Taft to actually get it in gear...then, with four minutes in overtime they actually started to play.

Coach Taylor, what is up? Taft loomed over the DLS team, but seemed bored the entire time. If it wasn't for Spencer and CJ (with occasional help from Khiry) hitting now and then you would have lost a game that should have been 75-55. DLS's defense is OK, but that wasn't really a factor. They look like a junior 2010 Mater Dei team. This game was all about a lack of energy on Taft's side..

Watching the Poly-Gorman game immediately after, I wonder if I should bother going to Taft's post-season games. If the team is as apathetic as tonight, there will be little point.
