Boys’ basketball: Loyola knocks off Harvard-Westlake

Loyola, ranked No. 1 in Southern Section Division 1A and having ended Etiwanda’s 21-game win streak last week, took down another basketball power on Friday in Mission League rival Harvard-Westlake with a 71-51 victory at Loyola. Harvard-Westlake came in with an 18-game win streak.

The Cubs (19-5, 9-2) won their eighth consecutive game and pulled to within a half game of first place behind the Wolverines (21-3, 9-1).

Julian Harrell scored 14 of his 24 points in the third quarter for Loyola, which outhustled the Wolverines and had better play at the guard position. Joe Stein had 19 points and Parker Cartwright 13.

Crespi defeated Chaminade, 63-49. Kenny Stenhouse had 19 points. Crespi hosts Harvard-Westlake on Monday night. Sherman Oaks Notre Dame defeated St. Francis, 63-49. Jonathan Bell scored 15 points.
