Boys’ basketball: Isaac Neilson a big part of Mission Viejo’s success

Perhaps the biggest reason behind Mission Viejo’s success this season has been the play of 6-foot-10 center Isaac Neilson.

The BYU-bound Neilson has been the driving force behind the Diablos’ 25-1 season, averaging 16.1 points per game, 10.5 rebounds per game and 4.6 blocks per game.

Neilson helped Mission Viejo capture the South Coast League title outright Thursday with his tip-in at the buzzer, lifting the Diablos to a 58-57 victory over a strong Capistrano Valley team (although there was some controversy over whether the basket should have counted).

Still, Neilson’s ability to dominate in the paint has made Mission Viejo a favorite to capture the Southern Section Division 2AA title in a few weeks. Check out these highlight reels:
