Boys' basketball: Grant gives Howie Levine his 11th league title

Howie Levine is in his 25th season as coach of Van Nuys Grant, and the Lancers gave him his 11th league title on Wednesday, clinching the East Valley League title with a 63-52 victory over Arleta.

Gor Plavchyan scored 28 points and had 19 rebounds. Travon Thomas added 17 points for the Lancers, who are 16-10 overall and 11-0 in league. They play in City Section Division III.

 In the West Valley League, Woodland Hills Taft remained unbeaten with a 79-40 victory over Reseda Cleveland. Kevin Johnson had 17 points and 12 rebounds. Spencer Dinwiddie added 15 points. El Camino Real defeated Birmingham, 77-68. Freshman Maleke Haynes scores 27 points and freshman Julian Richardson had 25 points.

In the Western League, Fairfax defeated Hamilton, 69-36. Reggie Theus had 15 points. The game between University and Venice was canceled because of a power problem.
