Baseball: Morningside seeks donations

Inglewood Morningside baseball Coach Brian Reed has sent out a plea seeking donations to help pay for new baseball bats required for his players.

"We don't have any money in our baseball budget to pay for new ones," he wrote in an e-mail.

I'm sure Morningside isn't alone. Paying for the new BBCOR bats will be a challenge for lots of schools and players.

Coachin' em up

Its a difficult position that we (high school baseball coaches) were put in with the BBCOR decision. Public schools will experience a more significant impact than private schools.

Perhaps the 1st year coach can get some financial assistance from the well established basketball program on campus.

Second option: purchase a BESR approved bat that has a CIF waiver (for 2011)... this would save money for this year.

Coach,

Give the Urban League in Compton a call 310-763-3479. They receive equipment donations and I am sure they will be very happy to help you out if they have the extra equipment.

The What?

Coach,
Please do a small fund raiser. I am certain that you will be able to get some funds to assist.
