Baseball: MLB Showcase is Saturday
The Southern California Invitational Showcase featuring 49 baseball players from 43 high schools will take place Saturday at 1 p.m. at the the Major League Baseball Urban Youth Academy in Compton.
Among the players scheduled to compete are Ryan Garvey of Palm Desert, son of former Dodger Steve Garvey, and Trevor Gretzky of Oaks Christian, son of NHL Hall of Famer Wayne Gretzky.
Huntington Beach Edison will be represented by its trio of Henry Owens, Christian Lopes and Eric Snyder.

The word is the Commish' likes it that way. The Compton MLB Urban Youth Academy has a fine reputation of being all show and no go. Their payroll comes from the MLB office in New York. They do what they're told. It's even weirder when they spruce up the so called Urban teams with those celebrity kids. Go figure. Their answer is: "the scouts pick the kids not us." Hell even Scott Boras' kid came through the Compton MLB Urban Youth Academy. Check out this 2010 list of 25 Urban draftees who they say came out of that Compton MLB Urban Youth facility. It is a bit of a joke since some of he better players in SoCal will not be there.
