Baseball: Historic game to feature female starting pitchers

February 26, 2011 |  8:54 am

Weather permitting, next Saturday at Birmingham High could produce a historic high school baseball game that will feature starting pitchers who happen to be female.

Birmingham Coach Matt Mowry confirms that he plans to start Marti Sementelli on the mound against Ghazaleh Sailors of Santa Barbara San Marcos in an 11 a.m. game that should bring out lots of TV cameras.

"It should be interesting," Mowry said.

Get ready for Sports Illustrated and ESPN to seize the moment of breaking down a gender barrier.
