Wrestling: City Section allows San Fernando athletes to compete

The City Section rules committee reversed itself on Monday, removing a sanction against the San Fernando wrestling team that prevented its athletes from competing in the City Section championshps.

Barbara Fiege, the City Section commissioner, said the committee decided not to punish the athletes for decisions made by administrators, allowing them to compete at the championships. San Fernando will not be eligible for the team title as a result of punishment for using an ineligible wrestler the last three years.

San Fernando Coach Fernando Gonzalez has stepped down for the rest of the season, assistant principal Jeremy Lawrence said. Former coach Mike Castillo will take over the program this season.

Glad to hear! A lot of learning on several different levels for the kids on that team. Not only do see first hand the repercussions of cheating the system, but also that is ok to reverse a decision. That's very respectable of the committee to reverse the decision after thinking it over.

Dontcha love it when common sense prevails?
