The View Park Prep girls’ basketball team is flourishing even though the charter school, which opened in 2003, only has 294 students and the basketball program didn’t join a league until 2006.

The Knights, who currently play in the Coliseum league against much larger schools, have a 16-3 record, and will play Narbonne (13-3) in the L.A City Showcase championship on Saturday at 4 p.m. at Fairfax High. View Park is led by Danielle Pruitt, who’s averaging 16.3 points and 8.4 rebounds. Her brother, Gabe, played for the Boston Celtics from 2007-09.

View Park Coach Denise Woods said her basketball team has thrived despite a unique set of challenges. The school doesn’t have it’s own practice facilities, so the Knights must practice at parks.

‘That’s difficult trying to coordinate it,’ she said. ‘We don’t even practice where we play.’
