The Southern Section Council, made up of area leagues, approved a change in the number of guaranteed playoff berths for each league in football on Thursday, and that will allow more at-large berths for each division effective in 2012.

Leagues with four or five teams will now be guaranteed two playoff entries. Six- to eight-team leagues will get three entries. Leagues with nine or more teams will get four entries. No longer will teams need at least a .500 record to be considered for the playoffs.

Most notably, the Moore League will lose its four-team guarantee for the Pac-5 playoffs. And the 10-team Marmonte League will have only four teams guaranteed for the Northern Division playoffs.
