Boys’ basketball: Corona Roosevelt holds on for victory

Corona Roosevelt wasted a 13-point fourth-quarter lead but still pulled out a 68-62 overtime victory over San Diego Hoover on Saturday in the California Elite Showcase at the University of La Verne.

Shannon Fowler of Roosevelt sent the game into overtime with a layup with two seconds left after a length-of-the-court pass was tipped and ended up in Fowler’s hands. Then the Mustangs (12-5) went on to an overtime win. Fowler had 18 points and Kendall Brown 17.

In other games of the showcase:

Chino Hills Ayala 62, Pomona Diamond Ranch 51_ One day after losing to highly regarded La Verne Damien in overtime, Ayala (13-7) got a victory behind Jared Ponce and Andrew Ortiz. Each scored 22 points.

Richmond Salesian 57, Rialto Eisenhower 54_Bernard Ireland had 14 points, but Eisenhower (12-7) couldn’t convert late to prevent a defeat.
