After quite an amazing run, Fullerton Troy lost to Columbia (South Carolina) Spring Valley, 53-42, Thursday in the championship game at the Crescent Bank Holiday Invitational in South Carolina.

The Warriors led 25-24 at halftime, and the score was tied at 37 with four minutes remaining. In the final minutes, though, Coach Roger Anderson said his team simply ran out of steam.

‘A couple of fouls didn’t go our way, and they hit a couple of buckets,’ Anderson said. ‘Next thing you know, you’re down.’

Anderson said he was very proud that his team made it so far in such a highly regarded tournament.

‘We went through three nationally ranked teams,’ Anderson said, ‘and we played two girls signed to go to Connecticut. The talent level we competed against was out of this world.’

Sophomore guard Briana Roberson led Troy with 15 points. Junior guard Shelby Dougherty won tournament MVP, and sophomore guard Gabriella Hanson made the all-tournament team.
