It’s week 15, and the player of the year in Southern California still needs to be decided, and one of the candidates emerging is two-way lineman Troy Niklas of Anaheim Servite.

The 6-foot-6, 245-pound senior has been playing like a future big-time college player, blocking well from the offensive guard position and making plays at defensive tackle.

His improvement over the course of the season is one reason Servite (14-0) is playing Concord De La Salle in Saturday’s CIF state championship Open Division bowl game at the Home Depot Center.

He missed seven games last season with a concussion and is back at full strength and making an impact.
