It’s misty and drizzling here at Home Depot Center in Carson, but there’s still plenty of football on the way. The first of this weekend’s five state bowl games kicks off in five minutes--the Division IV contest between Brookside Christian of Stockton and Bishop’s of La Jolla.

Northern California representative Brookside Christian (12-0), the Sac-Joaquin Section Division VI winner, uses a spread-option offense with quarterback Tony Rodriguez, who has has passed for 3,284 yards and 46 touchdowns. Rushing leader has Robert Fernandez has 1,098 yards and 17 TDs .

Southern California representative Bishop’s (13-0), the San Diego Section Division V champion, is led by Coastal League player of the year Alec Fisher, who has rushed for 1,523 yards and 25 TDs. Twin brother Austin Fisher racked up 1,223 yards and 15 scores.

San Juan Capistrano St. Margaret’s routed Hamilton City Hamilton Union, 59-7, in 2008 to win the inaugural Small Schools (Division IV) game and Modesto Christian edged San Diego Francis Parker, 44-40, last year.
