Gardena Serra will try to win its second straight state bowl game when it faces Folsom in the Division II game in about 20 minutes. The start of the game has been delayed because Serra players arrived with 3/4 inch spikes on their cleats. Only 1/2 inch spikes are allowed, so they were sent to the locker room to change them. The delay did, however, allowed maintenance crews time to rake the water-logged field.

It rained all morning and increased throughout the Division III game, which began at noon.

A wet surface might be the only thing that can slow down these two powerful offenses. Serra (14-0), the Southern Section Western Division champion, beat Marin Catholic to win the Division III state bowl last fall. The Cavaliers are led by senior quarterback Conner Preston (3,508 yards, 42 touchdowns) and receivers Marquise Lee and George Farmer, who have combined for 2,750 yards and 35 TDs.

Folsom (13-1), the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II winner, counters with dual-threat quarterback Dano Graves (3,488 yards passing, 59 TDs; 911 yards rushing, 20 TDs).
