I was thinking about picking Concord De La Salle to win its Open Division game against Anaheim Servite on Saturday at the Home Depot Center in Carson in the CIF state championship bowl game.

Then I saw the weather forecast. Rain is expected. And that’s good news for the Friars.

Last season, in the Pac-5 Division final, where it was pouring at Angel Stadium, Servite defeated Huntington Beach Edison, 16-6.

So rain doesn’t bother the Friars. In fact, rain is good for Servite. Maybe Coach Troy Thomas gets Servite to feel comfortable by diving on a wet field in his clothes during practice. Whatever the reason, rain is a good omen for the Friars.

Rain, however, is not good for attendance. And the people at Home Depot Center didn’t allow umbrellas the last time it rained during the bowl games. Hopefully, the weather forecasters are wrong.
