Football: Escalon captures Division III state bowl

December 18, 2010 |  2:49 pm

The first game of today's tripleheader at Home Depot Center is complete and Escalon has scored another victory for Northern California with a resounding 30-14 victory over San Diego Madison to claim the Division III state bowl championship.

Like Centennial in Friday night's Division I game, Madison seemed to have trouble adjusting to the slippery field and it showed in the turnover department. The Warhawks fumbled six times (losing four) and were held to under 40 yards rushing.

Next up is the Division II state bowl game between Gardena Serra and Folsom, which shapes up as a shootout. How much will the weather slow down these high-octane offenses? We'll find out shortly.

The opening kickoff is 40 minutes away.
