Just left the open division state championship game...AT HALFTIME...where the mighty southern section servite friars are getting taken to the woodshed 35-0...AT HALFTIME! It was quite amusing...
You southen section idiots need to keep your mouths shut and keep your veiled racial innuendo to yourselves the next time a city team makes claim to a state championship bid. Your words mean absolutely NOTHING.

Some of people should really just stop with all the hyperbole, e.g. "teachers retiring as Newport Beach millionaires". I'm no fan of Coach Garrett or his staff, but I doubt if he, or anyone else on that staff that teaches full time, has illusions of retiring to Newport Beach as a millionaire. This has nothing to do with teachers unions, and even less to do with moms and dads who volunteer and help out at a school. Let's leave out all the cultural relevance issues from this discussion, otherwise it could get really ugly. This is about a group of athlete's who without question, put together an impressive playoff run.
Seeing them in person the last two games, I really wish we could see that proverbial match up of the City "athletes" vs the SS "coaching". For years, we have heard about the City having good athletes but poor coaching. Well I sure would love to see those vaunted SS coaches game plan, scheme, and in-game adjust to the athleticism and talent of that Crenshaw team. Congratulations Crenshaw. You are deserving City Champions.

P.S. - saw Coach Price leaving the Coliseum after the game. He was beaming with pride to see his old school enjoying it's success.

Just what I predicted on Friday. CRENSHAW #1 SHAW SHUT CARSON DOWN! WHO'S HOUSE! THE SHAW HOUSE! UNTIL NEXT YEAR!

cub alum 85

Scalia, i think we know all we need to know about you with the moniker you have chosen. This whole thing was really good natured banter between two city schools that have a history with each other. I went to Loyola, so I'm sure my high school education was better than or at least equivalent to yours. Where did you go by the way? But fortunately that experience didnt give me a superior snobbish attitude because, through no work on my own I was born into comfortable circumstances. I do notice that every time something involves inner city sports, you emerge from behind your consevative rock and rant using all the rights greatest hits of veiled racist comments. Why are you on this blog anyway. isnt there a mission viejo-servite story you shoud be on? Anyway, we lost to Crenshaw 7-6 in 1999 even with the great Steve Grady coaching!

Juan

This blog is about Crenshaw and their accomplishments, so please keep your excruciatingly false suppositions about unions and taxes to the California section of this paper. However the means by which Crenshaw and other inner city schools are lead to the deficit from which they work it's not their doing, but there are plenty of committed people who work at these schools to compensate for it, mainly teachers. They've done a wonderful job these past years, so in spite of your thinly veiled jabs about inferiority for whatever reason they are still here and succeeding. And for the record, the amount of money contributed by "Pac 5 parents" to these schools is negligible. Schools receive the majority of their money from property taxes paid for proportionately by their location and region. Income property and apartments pay less property taxes by proportion than individual homes. Most inner-city schools are surrounded by these entities hence less money. Besides LAUSD is running the 2nd largest district in the country and it is bereft with bureaucracy that has nothing to do with teachers nor teacher salaries or the students. You would think and idiot who has the temerity to go by the name of a conservative supreme court justice would know these things, since it is literalist like Scalia that allow for NCLB to exist which requires teachers to have at least 4 years of post baccalaureate education (more than attorneys) in order to stay employed, so shouldn't teachers get paid commensurate with their education? Shouldn't they get paid for essentially securing the future of this nations children (We are 10th in teacher pay, yet we are the richest nation)? By the way, Coach Garrett is one of those highly qualified teachers who is more credentialed than half of the nations private school teachers. He's doing more with more in that respect! Great job Cougars and their Coaches! Woody and Scalia beat it.

jus sayin

@Woody, It's amazing how you and your kind are so ignorant to the plight of inner-city athletics.

Woody

JUS SAYIN? Please tell me you do not teach English at Crenshaw High. Your run on sentences and grammar illustrate Scalia's point perfectly. I hate Republicans but unfortunately they are correct. You and your kind are doing a disservice to all our children. Shame on you! You should immediately go to Santa Monica College and register for remedial English classes.

jus sayin

@ justice Scalia, I'm an LAUSD educator and I'm far from a millionaire. California, is #42 out of 50 states, in per pupil spending. So, please don't accuse unions for this mess. Most districts in CA have taken furlough days to compensate for the state budget. And wouldn't you want your child being educated by the best and brightest and in order to do that you must compensate a teacher appropiately. Crenshaw is playing at a disadvantage and they are to be commended until you see both sides of the fence you shouldn't comment on what you don't know. Just stick to athletic comments.

Colt Stampede

Congrats to Crenshaw on winning the City championship. That was a great defense and the defensive game plan.8 turnovers will get you beat everytime. No excuses just got handled. It was embarrasing!

THE CRENSHAW NATION

Job done well!!! Congratulations to The Crenshaw Nation, which includes everyone who has gone to the real C-House which is Crenshaw High School!!!

I am Coach Garrett worst critic, but I will keep it all positive. The Nation has truly been blessed to see for four years the talents of what I believe is the best high school player I have ever witness. I've been around the game for a long time, but that kid (Black Mamba) is something special. For those of you who did not attend the game, the kid made a twelve yard touchdown run that was the best play of the season!!! Hats off to Carson who had a great defensive game plan coming in, but Crenshaw had a better plan. What a great day it was to be a Cougar. I still feel the pain of that 1982 lost to Carson in the finals, but this was a little sweet revenge. For all those who feel like we can not compete
with the Pac-5, you really don't know a thing about football. As far as next year, it may be some rebuilding and I won't even declare we will win the City, but we will be very competitive.

In closing thanks to our young men from the class of 2011 for these past four years and the run you all had during your tenure at our beloved Crenshaw High School!

THE CRENSHAW NATION

THE TRUTH IS A VIRUS

Did I, or did I not say, CRENSHAW was gonna lay the SMACKDOWN!!! on carson. If asante would have been as smart, as he thinks he is, he would have given crenshaw the #1 seed. Getting the #1 seed just fired up a cougar team that didn't need firing up. Why would you dangle a 3lb steak in front of a hungry cougar ???

Crenshaw has a good team this year but because they have 2 loses I doubt they will even be considered for a state bowl game. For all of those people out there that keep talking all the bs that Crenshaw didn't deserve a bowl bid last year, its obvious that you know nothing about hs football, crenshaw deserved and represented the city section well. If anyone recalls last years game the black mamba was handling de la salle almost by himself. When thomas went down the rest of the team should have stepped up and they didn't and that includes the player of the year gino hall. Had hall stepped up Crenshaw would have won or at worst they would have lost by a field goal.

Servite and Corona centennial are the two deserving teams this year. Unfortunately our state bowl system is as stupid as the bcs is, and teams like crenshaw and san diego teams dont get a chance to state there case.

Coach

@Justice Scalia,

I agree 100%. Everyone in charge of making decisions in LAUSD should be fired and then jailed, Seriously. Someone has to do something. its getting out of hand, I'd start naming off all the wrong they do but I would run out of life. I'm not into snotty private school people either but at least they are devoted to what they put their minds to in the interest of the kids, thats why all these pac 5 schools do so well financially and raise good, good kids. Maybe every private school should Adopt 2 public schools and start turning this thing around, I dont see why anyone would do this but I dont see any other way. I have coached at both types of schools.

Justice Scalia

@Shaw

You say these kids "don't know where there next meal is coming from..."???

I can tell you -- I AM BUYING IT FOR THEM via the School Lunch Program, which also includes breakfast and has recently been expanded to dinner.

Of course, if they prefer Popeye's, Big Mac's, or Little Ceasar's, they won't be getting that from the School Lunch Program.

Quit crying money. You have a problem with the funding you get, take it up with the teacher's unions. Public schools are funded with nearly 40% of the state budget as a Constitutional mandate via Prop. 98. And the State spent nearly 30 BILLION DOLLARS IT DIDN'T HAVE as well, of which you got $12 BILLION OF IT!!!

The PAC-5 private school parents first pay their state taxes, and 40% of that money then goes to the public schools. Then they have to pay private school tuitions which can approach $10K per year. Then, they contribute money to their booster clubs, to buy uniforms, equipment, and hire coaches. On top of that, the moms contribute their time and money cooking for the players during hellweek, and the dads contribute by working on the fields, repairing equipment, and helping the coaching staff where needed.

So it's the PAC-5 parents who pay for schools like Crenshaw to exist at all. But ask yourselves, should your teachers earn $80-100K per year, and be able to retire after just 33 years, with 100% of their highest salary as a pension for the rest of their life? And should they get free gold plated healthcare plans for them and their spouse for life too?

And Crenshaw played in a State Bowl Game last year in shredded 10 year-old uniforms.

Think about it -- it's about time that the students revolt like they're revolting in Britain...but not against the State, against the teachers and their unions. Those people are becoming millionaires on the backs of, and at the expense of not only the PAC-5 parents, but the students like the Crenshaw players that "don't know where their next meal is coming from."

Millionaire teachers retired at 55, driving Escalades and living in Newport Beach, getting healthcare at Hoag...what has the world come to???

justcya

As the number one seed, Carson thought they were the City's best.
So all week they were posting about traditions and all that mess.
But at the Coliseum, the Raw Shaw came through.
And stomped them 'til they were BLACK and BLUE.
And now the Colts will bow down and kiss CITY CHAMPIONSHIP rings like the rest!
BWAHAHAHAHA !!! CRENSHAW COUGARS BACK-TO-BACK CITY CHAMPS!

southernleagueOG

@1since71...You know it wouldn't have mattered. Even if Crenshaw would have won ALL their games by 40, all we would have heard would have been " They don't deserve it, look what happened last year!" which is really nothing more than hater blah, blah (ala Justice Scalia and @ronaldus) and southern section snobs. Everybody knows that would have been a different slant on that game had Thomas not gotten hurt early. Maybe they would have still lost but remember, that was not a blowout...it was a one score game until DLS scored mid to late fourth quarter...final score 28-14.

Crenshaw was clearly the class of the city again this year, and while their name will be in the hat as the LA City champion, even I don't think they deserve the bowl invite this year. There are far too few slots and too many undefeated teams for them to have any real serious consideration. So, back-to-back Division 1 City Champions will have to be it for this year. How many LA City teams would love to be saying that this evening (Carson, Venice, Dorsey, Taft...anyone else...?)??

Anyway...I was at the game today and I will tell all you haters one thing (including @chouse)...While D'Anthony Thomas made that one spectacular run to pretty much seal the game score-wise, the real undoing for carson was Crenshaw's defense, and their offensive line. By the middle of the third quarter, the combination of those black unis in the sun all day and that huge offensive line...add to that the constant pressure the outside rush was putting on Alo all day and THEY WERE DONE! END OF STORY! HEAD FOR THE EXITS!

Face up to it carson colts...young team, old team, all the city, state, national , world, universe championships, long list of all-world players, blah, blah, blah blah...You got "it" handed to you today. Smile, shake hands, get on the bus to go home and start dreaming about being the real deal you WERE 20-30 years ago.

P.S. @Juan...Here, here! Those OC schools know that they don't was to have happen to them whats been happening to teams LIKE Mater Dei, etc." WHAT DO YOU MEAN THEY LOST TO A CITY TEAM?" The better teams from the city will have to continue to do like Dorsey had done in the past and like Crenshaw did this year and seek their early season competition out of state.

shaw 4 life

just know that crenshaw doesn't have the funding that the Pac 5 has so for them to accomplish what they have done in the last two years is exceptional. They can't pay coaches which doesn't allow them to hire strength coaches for off season workout. Try coaching at a school were some of your players don't know where there next meal with come from. Thanks to some of the players with parents that have ability to help out and feed them time to time. If it wasn't for a fumble in atlanta not to mention the heat and Shelton not being eligible. MV, Servite, are anyone else wouldn't blow out the Shaw and couldnt handle the speed of Crenshaw and both lines would match up only advantage would be depth. Crenshaw would be undefeated and headed to State but for now it's the city. Everyone thought Crenshaw would loose to Dorsey, Narbonne would keep it close, Venice had to much speed and Carson was good because they beat Mater Dei. True Deanthony is the best player in the state of California on both sides of the ball but Crenshaw will continue on he didn't start the tradition he made it stronger

shaw coug

90043 don't hate, u sould have read what Asante said in the breeze he all but gauranted Carson would beat Crenshaw today and it didn't happen. All Crenshaw did today was show why they should have been the #1 seed. yeah your rite Mamba will be gone next year but for now Crenshaw got Back II Back titles. what does your team have? NOTHING. We'll worry about next year when that time comes.

Ronaldus Magnus

Crenshaw wouldn't beat Oaks Christian, Westlake , Santa Margarita or Serra. Forget about the Pac-5.

And sure Carson beat Mater Dei -- but that was earlier in the season. MD peaked late, right at playoff time. At the end, Carson wouldn't have hung with MD.

Look at what Servite is doing to Mission Viejo right now -- MV averaging 42 points a game, but only posted 7 pooints at the half.

Crenshaw want some of that???

justcya

@ Justice. Didn't Mater Dei lose to CARSON??? That's what I thought. So why are we talking about who you THINK Crenshaw might lose to. Until those Pac-5 schools stop being scared of coming into "the hood" and schedule Crenshaw, we will never know. Congratulate Crenshaw for their victory and leave it at that. You sound like a HATER!

Juan

Crenshaw would be more than competitive with Servite or Mission Viejo. Their lineman don't go both ways anymore, and they would be the only team that could cover man to man and put that kind of pressure on the qb. Those Pac 5 teams can't simulate that kind of size and athleticism that Crenshaw has up front. LB Poly doesn't have that anymore. They would have problems generating offense, but they would not be scored on easily. The defensive issues they had early in the season were the product of turnovers and youth. Crenshaw struggled against the run early but that was fixed. There's no way they give up plays in the passing game like Carson against Mission Viejo. You Southern Section snobs forget that they dominated De la Salle until De'Anthony got hurt, and the break down was more mental than physical, they lost their fire when he went down. Servite almost lost to the back up QB from Rocklin in their final game last year, so miss me with the dominant Pac 5 argument. It was real convenient how Garrett and Knox routinely called OC schools for games and they rarely got return phone calls. Yet all these Pac 5 minions rant about their superiority on these blogs. The City does more with less PERIOD. And trust me the Pac 5 couldn't of handled the Mamba either. De La Salle couldn't.

90043

Yeah crenshaw won,but thats it! they wont be gettin an invite to the big dance(The State Championship) home depot center, but dont celebrate to long bcus the black mamba is gone and you dont have a replacement.

Justice Scalia

Crenshaw would be blown out, not just beaten but BLOWN OUT by the top 5 or 6 teams in the PAC-5. Servite, Mission Viejo, Alemany, Mater Dei, and others.

Congrats though in the City Title. And it looks like the LAUSD finally bought you guys some new uniforms too.

1since71

too bad shaw lost two early season games they should have won or they could have made a case for a bowl game.

Chouse!!!

It was only 18-0 in the 3rd, but Carson qb threw 4 picks and crenshaw returned them all for td's but Carson will be back, there a young team with alot of underclassman, not using that as an excuse for today but there young with a bright future!

Crenshaw '85

That's how you shut people up! Shaw All Day Err-rry Day!

justcya

Carson got SMASHED!!  I'm talking like, 10 car pile up on da 405, SMASHED!!!! E.S. you looking like the smartest man in the world with that prediction. Crenshaw is #1. Just crush 'em baby

southernleagueOG

I think it'll be safe to assume that the carson colt clan and the "tough as nails" marine league followers will have gone into blog hiding after that spanking. That league has some good competition within itself but carson was absolutely no match for Crenshaw. Those black uniforms didn't work any magic in the heat today.
