Corona Centennial scored 17 straight points at the start of the second half on its way to winning the Southern Section Inland Division championship, 45-21, over Vista Murrieta.

Barrinton Collins rushed for 291 yards and five touchdowns for the Huskies, who strengthened their argument that they belong in the state Open Division bowl game regardless of who emerges victorious in Saturday’s Pac-5 Division final between Mission Viejo and Anaheim Servite.

Centennial’s slimmest margin of victory all season was 19 points and it has more decisive wins against common opponents of Mission Viejo and Servite. Yes, the Pac-5 winner will have played a stronger schedule overall, but has any team this season looked more impressive week in and week out than the Huskies?

Whichever team Centennial plays in the state bowl--likely either Concord De La Salle in the Open Division or Palo Alto in Division I--that team’s coach will have nightmares trying to figure out how to stop the Huskies’ high-powered, quick-strike offense, which averages 50 points per game.
