Frank Ferry, the popular fifth-year principal at Mission Hills Alemany who has been instrumental in helping turn around the Warriors’ school and athletic program, underwent surgery Tuesday to remove a growth near his pancreas and is resting comfortably, according to a school spokesman.

It’s doubtful Ferry will be able to make Alemany’s Pac-5 Division semifinal game on Saturday against Servite, though he might try. Friends hope he stays in his hospital bed and follows the game via a computer.

‘The surgery went well,’ Assistant Principal Randy Thompson said.
