Any doubts about Crenshaw High’s return to the City Section championship game were erased the moment De’Anthony Thomas touched the ball.

With his team trailing early, the Cougars’ star turned a short pass into a 30-yard gain -- then scored on a 20-yard run a few plays later -- to kick-start a 63-12 victory over Venice in a semifinal game at Crenshaw on Friday night.

The visiting Gondoliers had taken a 6-0 lead on a 21-yard touchdown catch by Deontay Banks, but this game was out of reach by halftime. The USC-bound Thomas finished with 117 yards on eight carries and 75 more on four receptions. He rushed for two touchdowns and returned an interception for another.
