Boys’ basketball: Reese Morgan stars for Peninsula

Reese Morgan, a 6-foot-3 guard who has been starting since his freshman season, scored 33 points to help Peninsula earn a spot in the Westchester tournament semifinals with a 79-59 victory over Carson.

Peninsula (2-0) will play Westchester in an 8:30 p.m. game on Friday. Westchester defeated St. Bernard, 74-57. Taft will face Washington in the other semifinal at 7 p.m.

In the Redondo tournament, Fairfax lost in overtime to Bakersfield, 64-59. Laik Carter had 17 points and Landon Drew added 11 points and five assists.

In the San Luis Obispo tournament, Chass Bryan scored 23 points and freshman Jordan Flannery had 17 as Oaks Christian defeated Clovis North, 77-63, in the first game for former girls’ coach Andre Chevalier.

In the Carmichael Jesuit tournament in Northern California, Los Angeles Loyola defeated Alameda St. Joseph Notre Dame, 58-50. Julian Harrell had 20 points.

In the Campbell Hall tournament, the host Vikings defeated West Adams, 79-39. Austin McBroom scored 19 points and Jeremy Clark 18.

In the Pasadena tournament, Etiwanda defeated Birmingham, 77-48.

In a nonleague game, Pasadena Muir got 19 points from Justin Knowles to defeat Monrovia, 44-33.
