Boys’ basketball: Chatsworth improves to 6-1

Chatsworth is considered the favorite to win the City Section Division III championship, and the Chancellors are off to a 6-1 start after an 80-43 rout of Simi Valley Thursday in the Crescenta Valley tournament.

Derrick Hector scored 21 points, Terrell Funches had 18 and Jordan Rosales 15.

There’s a terrific semifinal matchup in the Santa Monica tournament on Friday, with Corona Centennial set to meet Compton at 6:30 p.m. Centennial defeated Fresno Central, 88-50. Michael Caffey had 24 points and Dominique Dunning 23. Compton defeated Eisenhower, 83-62, with Anthony January scoring 17 points and Victor Robbins 16.

Los Angeles Windward came close to pulling off the biggest upset of the night, losing in overtime to defending state Division II champion San Diego Lincoln, 65-64. Lincoln will play Santa Monica or Sacramento Sheldon in the other Santa Monica semifinal.

Crenshaw ended a four-game losing streak with a 74-66 win over Sherman Oaks Notre Dame. Jonathan Bell led Notre Dame with 18 points.

In the Moorpark tournament, the host Musketeers improved to 7-0 with a 68-67 victory over West Hills Chaminade. Jaron Martin scored 29 points for Chaminade. Oaks Christian lost to Simi Valley Royal, 71-65.

In the Ocean View tournament, Encino Crespi will meet unbeaten Santa Ana Foothill in a 6:30 p.m. semifinal on Friday. Los Angeles Loyola is in the other semifinal. In games Thursday, Temecula Valley defeated Ocean View, 65-57. Clovis East got 27 points from Kevin Bailey to beat Long Beach Jordan, 77-66.
