Back in the 1990s, when Jeff Young was hired at West Hills Chaminade, he brought along two of the basketball players he coached at Cal Lutheran, Russell White and Bryan Cantwell, to be assistant coaches.

In 2001, Cantwell succeeded him as coach at Chaminade. White had already left for Calabasas.

At this week’s Ocean View tournament, there could be a reunion of Chaminade coaches. Young is an assistant at Clovis West. White coaches Encino Crespi. Both schools are in the tournament. Cantwell has left basketball coaching to coach golf and work as an administrator at Chaminade but he’s best friends with White, so who is he going to be rooting for this week?

‘I’m supporting the Mission League teams,’ Cantwell said in his best politically correct comment.
