JSerra baseball Coach Brett Kay is a little too competitive. He suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament playing in an adult league basketball game and will be on crutches for another three weeks since surgery last month.

Asked what his baseball players thought of his injury, Kay said, ‘They asked if I made the shot.’

And the answer?

‘No, because I have no left hand,’ he said.

He should be back on the field when JSerra, Mission Viejo and La Puente Bishop Amat play in a three-team tournament at JSerra on Jan. 22. All three schools figure to be top 25 teams this spring. Mission Viejo is considered a Southern Section Division 1 title threat.
