No public school in Southern California is looking better when it comes to athletic facilities than Redondo Union High, which will have a tour for interested people of its new and upgraded facilities on Friday at 4 p.m. as part of homecoming activities.

‘It’s been an amazing transformation on our campus and is providing outstanding venues for our athletes,’ Principal Mary Little said.

A bond measure approved by voters in 2008 is sending $94 million to Redondo to upgrade facilities, and athletics has been a big beneficiary.

An aquatics center has risen, and Olympic gold medalist Jason Lezak will race on Friday at the pool as part of the festivities. The football field is now synthetic turf, and there’s an additional synthetic turf field for soccer and lacrosse.

The football stadium has been upgraded, there’s a new fieldhouse, weight room and locker room. The softball field has been upgraded and there’s new tennis courts. A second gymnasium is almost complete, and then the main gym will be upgraded.

The auditorium was remodeled, there’s a new student services building and improvement in classrooms.

As for Friday, Little said, ‘I am not getting into the pool.’

But she plans to use the pool when less people are around.

The students and community members of Redondo should be feeling good about making their school a place to admire for its commitment to education and athletic activities.
