Football: Taking a rivalry too seriously

November 8, 2010 |  8:50 am

Fillmore and Santa Paula meet for the 100th time in high school football on Friday night at Fillmore, but somebody is taking the rivalry a little too seriously.

Members of the two schools got together for a banquet on Sunday, and when the Santa Paula squad returned to its campus by bus, coaches found a dead chicken in a box that had the words "Santa Paula Cardinals" crossed out and replaced by "Santa Paula Chickens."

Harming an animal is bad enough, but several cheerleaders who saw the dead bird were "grossed out," Santa Paula Coach Teohua Sanchez said Monday.

Yes, sports are great, but some fans need to learn a lesson about what's in poor taste.
