What I’ve learned from watching Ventura St. Bonaventure play this season against Long Beach Poly, Oaks Christian and Westlake is that the Seraphs have some big-time players.

In their 32-31 double-overtime victory against Westlake, the Seraphs got 147 yards rushing and two touchdowns from junior running back Shaun Wick. Their two offensive tackles, senior Luke Meyer and junior David Barajas, were outstanding. Jalen Jefferson had a key interception at the end of the first half.

Junior quarterback Marc Evans keeps improving and staying calm and composed. He’s a future scholarship player. And defensive linemen Eric Schneider and Cody Kurz form what I think is one of the best line duos around.

Most of all, 31-year-old Coach Todd Therrien is the best bargain in coaching. While other Catholic schools are paying more than $100,000 for their head coach, Therrien is delivering for half that price.
