The City Section gets lots of flak for some of the strange things that happen on and off the sports field, but Friday night’s football game between Crenshaw and Dorsey should bring out the best in City athletics.

There will be so many top athletes on the field, with alumni in the stands and on the sideline. It should be a great atmosphere at Jackie Robinson Stadium.

And there’s some terrific players with strong academics in the game. Jeremiah Allison from Dorsey has 21 sacks and straight-As. Yohance Salimu of Crenshaw has a 3.8 GPA and wants to attend Air Force.

So there will be lots of smack going on, but it’s time to admire and salute the schools and players participating in a game that should be good for the community and the City Section. I’m looking forward to being there.
