Boys’ basketball: Taft wins weekend tourney

Woodland Hills Taft and LaVerne Lutheran, expected to be among the best basketball teams in Southern California this season, reached the championship game of the Power Balance Super 16 tournament at The HAX on Sunday, and Taft won, 55-52.

Guard Spencer Dinwiddie and forward Brandon Perry led the Toreadors.

The surprise team in the tournament was North Torrance, which made it to the semifinals before losing to Lutheran.
