Football: Westlake linebackers are coming through

As impressive as the offense has looked in its first five games, unbeaten Westlake Village Westlake (5-0) has an underrated defense, led by senior outside linbackers Max Winsberg and Jack Shepherd.

They're the leading tacklers for a defense that has surrenderred only 35 points all season.

"They're both very good," Coach Jim Benkert said.

Each had 12 tackles in the Warriors' win over rival Oaks Christian. Each was all-league last season.

Westlake faces Moorpark on Friday in its latest Marmonte League showdown.

No surprise that Max Winsberg is excelling on the football field; it is a shame that the kid is not displaying his talents on the baseball field. Without a doubt, Winsberg would be the top shortstop in the Marmonte League and possibly one of the best in the CIF PERIOD! Huge loss for Miller over at Westlake. Wake up and get this kid back on the baseball field.
