Football: Westlake linebackers are coming through

As impressive as the offense has looked in its first five games, unbeaten Westlake Village Westlake (5-0) has an underrated defense, led by senior outside linbackers Max Winsberg and Jack Shepherd.

They’re the leading tacklers for a defense that has surrenderred only 35 points all season.

‘They’re both very good,’ Coach Jim Benkert said.

Each had 12 tackles in the Warriors’ win over rival Oaks Christian. Each was all-league last season.

Westlake faces Moorpark on Friday in its latest Marmonte League showdown.
