Mission Viejo’s Tre Madden, the dynamic linebacker-quarterback who makes life miserable for opponents on both sides of the ball, might play this week for the first time since fracturing his right foot Sept. 16 against Corona.

Madden has been practicing, and Diablos Coach Bob Johnson said his availability for top-ranked Mission Viejo’s South Coast League game against San Clemente on Friday will be a game-time decision.

The Diablos haven’t missed a beat with Madden on the sideline, winning all four games comfortably, but his return would significantly boost an already potent offense.

‘We’re hoping he’s ready to go this week,’ said Johnson, who noted that reserve players at several positions have stepped up in the wake of injuries to a host of starters. ‘We’re really proud of the kids. We’ve had two or three starters out every week and the backups have come together in a tough schedule and played well.’
