OK, the fun starts Thursday in the Trinity League, with seemingly every game a battle, starting with Santa Ana Mater Dei playing Bellflower St. John Bosco at Santa Ana Stadium.

Has Mater Dei (3-2) really turned things around after losses to Carson and Corona Centennial? Is St. John Bosco (4-1) really a playoff contender?

Then comes Friday, with Santa Margarita taking on Orange Lutheran at Orange Coast College. Is Santa Margarita (4-1) really as good as it looks under new Coach Harry Welch? Is Orange Lutheran (3-2) ready to wake up?

Can any team beat Anaheim Servite (5-0)? And how good is JSerra (5-0)?

We’ll get some answers after the opening week. Mater Dei quarterback Max Wittek threw five touchdown passes Saturday in a 48-0 win over Gardena. Todd Hunt, the transfer from Connecticut, had a 30-yard TD run.

Bring on the weekly insanity of Trinity League play. And remember, only three of the six teams get to go to the playoffs.
