Jared Baker’s 240-yard, four-touchdown performance for Los Angeles Loyola last week against Valencia was his first breakout effort of the season and couldn’t have come at a better time.

Committed to Arizona, Baker has rushed for 561 yards and scored seven touchdowns going into the Cubs’ Serra League opener on Friday against Sherman Oaks Notre Dame.

With Loyola’s passing attack slowed by the absence of veteran quarterback Jerry Neuheisel (concussion), Baker has stepped forward to ignite the offense. And backup quarterback Andrew Magana has limited his mistakes, helping the offense, too.
