With the defense finally mostly healthy, Long Beach Poly had no problems in knocking off unbeaten Lakewood, 27-14.

Quarterback Chaiyse Hales completed 13 of 16 passes for 162 yards and two touchdowns. Running back Keltain Malveaux rushed for 109 yards. And Poly’s defense was magnificent behind linebackers Josh Fasavalu and Salamo Fiso.

‘This is the group I thought we had,’ Poly Coach Raul Lara said.

The rest of the Pac-5, beware. If the Jackrabbits play like they did Friday, they’re back as a contender.
