Receiver Dejean King finally gave Edison’s home crowd something to cheer about, making a juggling catch in the corner of the end zone on a pass from Chase Favreau with 27 seconds left, but the Chargers will go to intermission trailing Mater Dei, 20-7, at Orange Coast College.

Mater Dei converted two early Edison turnovers into touchdowns for a quick 13-0 lead and precision passing by quarterback Max Wittek kept the Monarchs in control of the ball for most of the second quarter. Wittek has completed 11 of 16 attempts for 87 yards and one touchdown.

Edison quarterback Chase Favreau has struggled. He didn’t complete his first pass until the final minute of the second quarter and wound up two of eight for 26 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Nicholas Masaniai‘s 31-yard run set up the Chargers’ only score.

Mater Dei will receive the second half kickoff.
