There is plenty at stake for both teams tonight at Orange Coast College, where Huntington Beach Edison will be hosting Santa Ana Mater Dei in a nonleague game between Southern Section powerhouses.

Edison (3-1), ranked 16th in the Southland by The Times, is coming off a tough 16-9 loss to No. 3 Anaheim Servite in a rematch of last season’s Pac-5 Division championship game. Chargers quarterback Chase Favreau, who injured his ankle and did not play in the second half against Servite, participated in pre-game drills and looks ready to go.

Mater Dei (1-2) lost its first two games to Carson and Corona Centennial but rebounded last week with a 42-14 victory over previously unbeaten San Clemente (4-1), The Times’ 23rd-ranked team. Monarchs’ quarterback Max Wittek completed 14 of 19 passes for 315 yards and four touchdowns against San Clemente.

Mater Dei has won the coin toss and deferred to the second half, so Edison will receive the opening kickoff.
