First-year Coach Jon Mack has Encino Crespi off to a 4-1 start, and his best move might have been hiring offensive coordinator Pepe Villasenor.

Villasenor caught 111 passes his senior year at Ventura St. Bonaventure in 1996, the second best in state history. He was living in Spain when Mack persuaded him to return to coaching, and look what Villasenor has done with senior quarterback Kenny Stenhouse, a reserve last season. Stenhouse has twice set school records with games of 424 yards and 486 yards passing.

‘He’s done a great job,’ Mack said of Villasenor.

Villasenor is so small he can get lost on the sideline, but the impact he’s had makes him Crespi’s secret weapon.
