Good news for City Section football fans who like tradition and playing championship events in professional sports venues.

The City Section is expected to soon finalize a deal to keep its Division I championship football game at the Coliseum. The game would be played on Saturday, Dec. 11 at 1 p.m. The Division II final would be played on Friday, Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. at East Los Angeles College.

The City Section had originally announced East L.A. would host both games because of budget reasons, but the Coliseum has cut its fee to $5,000 and will get sponsorships to make up the difference, according to assistant City Section commissioner John Aguirre.

Kudos go to Councilman Tom LaBonge, a member of the Coliseum Commission, and Todd Destefano from the Coliseum management team, for helping put together a deal that Aguirre said he expects to be completed shortly.
