Football: Canyon Country Canyon gets first test

October 20, 2010 |  8:49 am

Canyon Country Canyon is 6-0 and off to its best start since the days Harry Welch was the coach, but the Cowboys face their toughest challenge of the season on Friday against Valencia (5-1) in a Foothill League game at Canyon.

The big question is how good is Canyon? None of the Cowboys' six victories came against a top 25 opponent.

Their wins are over Burbank Burroughs, Palmdale Highland, Camarillo, Beverly Hills, Goleta Dos Pueblos and Saugus.

At a time when coaches are strengthening their schedule, Canyon wanted to have some success after going 2-9 last season, so gone from the schedule were Thousand Oaks and West Hills Chaminade.

Now, it's time to see if the Cowboys should be considered a league title contender.
