When schools in the Catholic Athletic Assn. were putting together new football leagues, one of the toughest decisions was what to do with Mission Hills Alemany and Gardena Serra.

In the end, Alemany was voted into the Pac-5 Serra League while Serra took over Alemany’s spot in the Misison League.

‘It was like, what were they thinking?’ Chaminade Coach Ed Croson said.

Croson is more concerned about the long bus rides moving Alemany out. He prefers all San Fernando Valley schools. Last season, he said the Eagles were on the bus for nearly 2 1/2 hours on a drive to St. Paul in Santa Fe Springs.

Now, I would think the coaches in the Mission League might want Alemany back even though the Warriors are 6-0 because Serra has become a dominant team.

Serra (5-0) begins Mission League play on Saturday night at La Canada St. Francis. Playing a Saturday night game will allow lots of people to get their first glimpse at Serra, and they won’t be disappointed. This is a team with as much college talent as any in the Southland.

And those who voted to kick Alemany out of the Mission League, be careful what you wish for.
