Football: A little guy inspires Crespi

Michael Davison of Encino Crespi is listed on the roster at 5 feet 4, 130 pounds.

"Anyone really know who big he is?" Coach Jon Mack asked his assistant coaches.

Davison caught two touchdown passes last week against Woodland Hills Taft. He's also a key member of the special teams.

He has become an important weapon for the Celts (5-1), who open Serra League play on Friday night at unbeaten La Puente Bishop Amat (6-0).

He's another reason not to underestimate someone because of their lack of size.

PBJ: "Most people would like to send their kids to USC, UCLA, Harvard or Yale but do not have the cash so they end up at CSUN."

Actually, it costs about the same to go to CSUN as it does to go to UCLA, Cal Poly, Berkeley, or UCSD.

The privates, however are different.

It should be noted that Crespi is one of the few Catholic schools that offers decent scholarships to disadvantaged kids, who the school thinks can cut it academically. This practice goes all the way back to J.J. Lasley and before. You can still make a Crespi Man out of a boy, even if he comes from a bad neighborhood.

GO CELTS!!!

Press Box.......HW is well over 30 grand these days!

Crespi Fan - I am sure that most people would send their kids to Crespi if they had an extra $12,000 a year. Some would love to send their kids to Harvard Westlake if they had an extra $20,000 per year to spend. You cannot compare apples to watermelons on this one. Most people would like to send their kids to USC, UCLA, Harvard or Yale but do not have the cash so they end up at CSUN. Getting a good education is more about the student and teacher than the location.

Crespi alum

Probably the hardest kid to tackle on the field

Crespi Fan

People always want to say they are a fan of city ball. But the real truth is that even the players at Taft dont live in Ventura. Parents should have the rights to send their kids wherever they want. As you mentioned the City Section kids dont even appear to look decent and in order. And no matter that anyone says, the education at Crepi is far more superior than then city. Remember we are talking about kids!!!

Taft Guy

Nice bit of recruiting tid bit, Being a fan or city ball it hurts to see all that talent that lives in lake veiw terrace, van nuys, and LA play at crespi, BUT I definitely understand, I would send my kids there, you pass by schools now days around 3:00 and what comes out of some of these places is pretty lame, parents need to step up, if my son ever wears a pair of knee high socks , cut off dickies and a white tank top, it will be the end of him and his friends. things need to get back to the 50's

All three but it starts with "The tone at the top".

Anyone notice that Crespi is quietly moving up the rankings? Yeah they gave up a lot of points against Taft, but they seem to score at will. I am not sure if it is the Crespi O.C., John Mack or just a very composed QB...Whatever the case may be I am becoming a fan. Their offense actually looks like an offense rather than some kinda of one man show like a lot of teams out there.

If you have a kid that wants to be a linemen, have him go to Crespi. The program will make him look good!

I will be heading out right now to buy a brown sweat shirt.
