The Los Angeles Unified School District has canceled all outdoor activities for Monday because of excessive heat.

With temperatures well past 100 degrees in the West San Fernando Valley, football coaches are switching practices into the gym or using the time for video sessions.

North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake intends to go through with its scheduled practice at 4 p.m. even though the temperature on its synthetic turf field was at 111 degrees just before 2 p.m.

Players will wear shorts and have more water breaks and shorter drills, according to Sandee Teruya, the school’s director of sports medicine.

For once, it’s cooler in Palm Springs (104 degrees) than Los Angeles.

Update: Harvard-Westlake has had a change in plans. The team will now practice indoors because it got hotter, according to Teruya.
