Football: The silliness of national rankings

September 16, 2010 |  8:24 am

It's the silly time in high school football, meaning people keeping trying to create interest with national polls.

The people at Rivals.com have a poll, and just because they have 14 teams from Florida listed, they apparently think the state has passed California and Texas in top teams.

Let me just say I'd love to see any team from Florida face Gardena Serra, Mission Viejo or Anaheim Servite this season and see what the result would be.

Of course, that's not going to happen, which means these polls are solely about getting fans excited, upset or annoyed. I'm going to ignore them except for this one time to make my point.
